Cut Up!!
I hope everyone had a good time at Digstock XII! I know my detecting buddies and I did! It was great to see some old friends and finally shake hands with some people I've only chatted with online!
On Sunday we decided to pick a field near headquarters so we could get some close parking incase it started to rain. A detectorist at the tent was telling me about 2 guys who had dug up 4, half cut peices, of Spanish reales in the field next to headquarters the evening before. I mentioned it to Matt and he confirmed it! So Jeff and I grabbed our gear and headed for the supposed area. We started looking for a iron patch and found some, not much, but some iron. We found a couple of broken shoe buckle frames and we knew we were close. A little after a hour or so I got a solid 81 on the DĒUS II. I told myself, "if there's one out here for me this is my best chance". I popped a hole, dropped to the ground, grabbed the pinpointer and stuck it into the hole. Almost immediately I got a solid hit and as I started to move the sandy soil around I seen a small pie shaped item moving around in the dirt!! 🤯
Got one!!! Turns out to be a quarter cut, Spanish 2 Reale, minted in Spain between 1707-1714 under the reign of King Charles III!!
THANKS to Matt and all of the Digstock staff and volunteers for putting on another amazing event!
Good Luck & Happy Hunting to everyone and hope to see you at the next Digstock event!! ✌🏼😎
